The Stock Market Game

The Washington Council on Economic Education is proud to offer The Stock Market Game™ Program to educators and students across the state of Washington. The SMGP is an educational program administered nationally by the Foundation for Investor Education, an affiliate of the Securities Industry Association (SIA). The SMGP provides its participants with a wealth of teaching materials that can be used in a variety of disciplines in grades 4-12 in support of its online investment simulation. Since its introduction in 1976, the SMG program has helped more than nine million students nationally and internationally learn how financial markets work and about their roles in those markets.

This version of the SMGP will be offered in the fall and spring school semesters. Team standings will be based upon the return earned by the team’s the portfolio with respect to the performance of the Standard and Poor 500 from the date that play begins. There are three divisions: elementary (grades 4-6), junior high/middle school (grades 7-8), and high school (grades 9-12)

Portfolio rankings are updated daily! Portfolio transactions will still receive end-of-day pricing. Advisors wanting “real time” pricing for their teams must request this option in writing.

Due to the generosity of Merrill Lynch, we are able to offer the SMGP free of charge to Washington students in the 4th-12th grades.

NEW Spring 2008: All members of the winning high school team (maximum of 5 team members) will receive a $500 college scholarship.
